About
The Centers for Housing Opportunity produce, preserve, and protect housing in Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and Eastern Connecticut.
The Centers for Housing Opportunity (CHO) bring together cross-sector partners to produce, preserve, and protect housing in Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and Eastern Connecticut (New London, Tolland, and Windham Counties). CHO is a program of the Housing Collective and LISC Connecticut.
The Centers for Housing Opportunity are cross-sector partnerships. Each of the three regional centers in Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and Eastern CT is made up of local partners in different sectors like planning, lending, philanthropy, education, and community development. These partners collaborate to deliver education, community advocacy support, and technical assistance to advance housing solutions designed to meet the specific needs of their regions.
Our work is rooted in the understanding that housing is fundamental for thriving, healthy, economically viable communities, and everyone should be able to access a safe, affordable place to live.
We provide administrative support and technical assistance to municipalities, non-profit developers, service providers, local resident groups, tenant unions and other partners. We align regional funding, data, and resources to help communities plan for their future, and we host public programming to help residents better understand housing challenges and solutions.
In 2025, the Eastern Connecticut and Fairfield County Centers for Housing Opportunity were recognized with a Connecticut Foundation for Open Government Pearlman Freedom of Information Award for our efforts to expand participation in the local land use process. In 2023, the Fairfield County Center for Housing Opportunity was recognized with a U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development Secretary's Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships.
